Woman article; "The truth about doctors' receptionists'
Some may have a bad reputation for being rude, but there could be more going on behind the scenes than you realise…
Right now in ‘GP Land’, there’s lots for patients to complain about – namely, lengthy waits for just about everything,
from getting through on the phones to hospital referrals.
But one complaint that’s stood the test of time is of ill-mannered GP receptionists – stereotypically assumed to be fierce and uncaring.
Woman article; "What your GP really thinks about Doctor Google"
Looking online for medical insights and advice can be both a help and a hindrance.
It’s now so common for my patients to have first Googled their symptoms and likely diagnosis by the time I see them as a GP, that I routinely ask what they’ve found. It’s great that we have so much health information freely available, but the flip side to this is that diseases are rarely simple and information online can (and does often) lead to inaccurate assumptions and either under- or over self-diagnosis.
Woman article; "Why no woman should put up with bladder leaks"
It’s time to put an end to feeling ashamed and embarrassed – for good
When it comes to the joys of getting older, a problem that up to half of us will experience is bladder weakness. And, if it’s true that having big babies puts you first in the queue for this, then my third (and final) child at 10lb 5oz leaves me right up there! The good news? You don’t have to simply ‘put up with it’ – your GP is willing and able to help.
